In December, the USMLE announced that beginning in 2006, it will begin reporting Step 2CS scores during specific reporting periods based on when examinees took the CS exam. Scores for a given testing period will be mailed on the first day of the reporting period for most examinees. However, there will be a small number of examinees, usually those who took the exam in the latter part of the testing period, who may not receive their results until late in the corresponding reporting period.
This new reporting method will allow the USMLE to use better procedures for monitoring Step 2CS scoring procedures and also provides guidelines so examinees will know when to expect the CS scores to be reported and therefore make better plans to schedule their CS test dates in order to meet medical school graduation or residency matching deadlines. The reporting periods and corresponding exam dates are shown below.
