The ISEE at a Glance

The ISEE (or Independent School Entrance Examination) is developed and administered by the Educational Records Bureau (ERB), and is used by about 1,100 independent schools as part of the admissions process.

Who Takes It?

Not all private secondary schools require the ISEE. Consult your school's guidance counselor to determine if you have to take this test. There are three different versions of the ISEE:

  • Verbal Reasoning
  • Quantitative Reasoning
  • Reading Comprehension
  • Mathematics Achievement
  • Essay Section

When Is It?

The test is offered in over thirty metropolitan areas across the country. The list of testing dates and locations is found in the ISEE Student Guide (pdf) available through the school to which the student is applying or online.
