Since 1957 the West Virginia University School of Dentistry has provided a learning environment to train competent dental professionals and has supplied West Virginian residents with an oral health care center to serve its needs. The School continues to succeed in its mission. Approximately 71 percent of the practicing dentists in the state are WVU alumni. Moreover, for more than 25 years, the school's state-wide remote-site program has both given students experience in hospital and community based dentistry as well as provided affordable dental care and dental health education to children and adults from rural areas.

The curriculum is designed to ensure the technical competence, intellectual capacity, and professional responsibility of its graduates. Clinical training and experience constitute a major part of the curriculum.

Post-doctoral education leading to specialization in one of the eight American Dental Association recognized specialties is offered as well as graduate studies in the basic sciences which lead to additional degrees (MS, Ph.D.).

Admissions Requirements:
Applicants must generally complete a minimum of 90 semester hours at an accredited college.

  General Biology or Zoology - 8 Semester Units
  General Chemistry with lab - 8 Semester Units
  Organic Chemistry with lab - 8 Semester Units
  General Physics with lab - 8 Semester Units
  English Composition - 6 Semester Units

Additional coursework in Biochemistry, Cell and Molecular Biology, Anatomy and Physiology, and Microbiology is recommended. Studies in the humanities is also suggested.
