Profile:
Founded in 1967, The Medical University of
South Carolina's College of Dental Medicine offers a
traditional DMD program. The university is dedicated
to the health sciences so there is an extensive focus
on scientific research, as well as a vibrant science
community.
The core curriculum of MUSC's Doctor of Dental
Medicine program targets the basic pre-clinical
dental sciences in the first two years. Students are
then introduced to concepts in patient care and
intensive instruction in the clinical sciences in the
third year. The final year offers rich clinical
experiences at MUSC's facilities, as well as rotation
through dental clinics throughout South Carolina.
Location is one of MUSC major assets. The school
in situated in beautiful and historic Charleston. The
city offers the myriad cultural and recreational
activities of a large city. But it also exudes a
small town charm and a tight-knit professional
community.

Admissions Requirements:
Applicants to MUSC must have completed at least
90 semester hours of undergraduate college education.
Most applicants have completed a bachelor's degree
program prior to entry into dental school. Specific
academic requirements include:

Recommended electives include advanced zoology,
psychology, comparative anatomy, biochemistry, cell
biology, physiology, pathology, pharmacology, among
others.
In addition, every applicant is required to submit
a DAT score, the usual college academic transcripts,
a letters of recommendation. Prospective applicants
also must sit for an interview. The application
period ends earlier than most US dental schools; so
students are highly encouraged to apply early.
Admission preference is given to residents of South
Carolina.
