University of Nebraska
School of Dentistry

Profile:
The University of Nebraska College of Dentistry combines the personal attention of a small professional school with the academic resources and recreational activities of a massive state university system.

The philosophy behind Nebraska's dental curriculum is based on 5 core concentrations: scientific development, diagnostic skills and treatment planning, clinical treatment, practice administration, and personal and professional responsibility. The program emphasizes clinical experiences early on. In fact, students are introduced to clinical observations in the first year. The first year curriculum primarily focuses on building science skills in the basic, pre-clinical sciences. In the sophomore year, students are assigned patients and the course work is focused on comprehensive clinical experiences and patient care. The school is also noted for its emphasis on community and professional responsibility.

Nebraska offers clinical experiences through a myriad hospital affiliations as well as a highly regarded rural rotation program. The school also offers postgraduate degrees in endodontics, pediatric dentistry, peridontics, orthodontics, as well as a general practice residency program

Admissions Requirements:
Applicants to Nebraska's dental school must have completed at least 90 semester hours of undergraduate college education. Most applicants have completed a bachelor's degree program prior to entry into dental school. Specific academic requirements include:

Biology or Zoology with lab - 8 Semester Units
General Chemistry with lab - 8 Semester Units
Organic Chemistry with lab - 8 Semester Units
  Physics w/lab - 8-10 Semester Units
English Composition - 6 Semester Units

It is also recommended that applicants complete undergraduate course work in psychology, comparative anatomy, biochemistry, cell biology, physiology, pathology, pharmacology, economics, among others.

In addition, every applicant is required to submit a DAT score and the usual college academic transcripts. Prospective applicants also must sit for an interview. Although the school does not require letters of recommendation, an academic progress report or statement of standing from a pre-dental advisor is encouraged.

The school strongly urges students to submit application packages by November 1st. However, applications will be accepted until February 1st of the year in which you plan to matriculate. Residents of Nebraska, Wyoming, and North Dakota are given priority consideration for admission.
