For more than 50 years, the School of Dentistry at the University of North Carolina - Chapel Hill has remained dedicated to excellence in education, research, patient care, and service. Upon graduation, students are ready to enter the general practice of dentistry, the dental specialties, dental allied health fields, research, and teaching in a wide variety of settings, primarily in service to the people of North Carolina. The School of Dentistry also offers a wide array of masters, postdoctorate, and PhD programs in specialties such as Oral Biology, Oral Epidemiology, Endodontics, Operative Dentistry, Pediatric Dentistry, and Oral & Maxillofacial Radiology.

Admissions Requirements:
Students applying for admission must have completed a minimum of 96 semester hours or 144 quarter hours of accredited college courses. Students preparing for the study of dentistry are encouraged to complete a regular four-year curriculum leading to the B.A. or B.S. degree. Applicants must have successfully completed all of the following college course work::

  General Biology w/lab - 8 Semester Units
  General Chemistry w/lab - 8 Semester Units
  Organic Chemistry - 4 Semester Units
  Physics - 8 Semester Units
  English - 8 Semester Units

Prospective dental students should consider courses in biochemistry, molecular biology, statistics, business, writing skills, computer science, sculpture and art. Students are encouraged to take as many courses as possible in social science, history, literature, economics, philosophy, and psychology.
