The University of Alberta offers a program that leads to a Doctor of Dental Surgery degree. In addition, the school offers graduate-level courses and a dental hygiene program. The Faculty of Dentistry program is approved by the Canadian and American Dental Associations.

The first year in Alberta's dental program provides a comprehensive review of the basic sciences. Students are gradually introduced to the clinical sciences and practical-oriented programs throughout the second and third years. In the final year, students are totally immersed in patient care and delivery of dental services. Rotations through the university-affiliated hospitals, as well as rural provincial clinics are required to gain clinical experience.
